Import a whole questionnaire from Excel, CSV or JSON

Prepare your questions in one file using the template, review errors before importing, then add them to your survey in one step.

Steps

  1. Open the survey and choose Import questions on the Questions tab. For a new survey, create an empty survey and import into it.
  2. Download the template as Excel, CSV or JSON. The Excel file has a second sheet, "Guide", explaining every column.
  3. Fill one row per question and upload the file. A preview lists every row with its errors by row number.
  4. Choose Append after the current questions or Replace the whole draft (drafts only), then Import.

If there is any error, nothing is written. Up to 300 questions per file.

Columns

  • page: page number, ascending. Blank means the previous row's page.
  • type: question type, e.g. nps, single_choice, matrix. Use note for an internal note respondents never see.
  • required: yes or no.
  • text_ar / text_en and help_ar / help_en: texts in Arabic and English.
  • options: one option per line (or separated by ;), each "Arabic | English".
  • exclusive: numbers of exclusive options, e.g. 4.
  • matrix_mode / rows / columns: rating or multi_select; rows and columns use the options format.
  • scale: points from 3 to 10.
  • carry_forward: selected:Q3 or unselected:Q3.
  • show_if: display condition, e.g. Q2 <= 6 or Q1 = 2 AND Q4 answered.
  • jump: e.g. Q4 = 4 -> Q9, -> page:3 or -> end:key. Forward only.

Referring to questions

Qn is the question's row number in the file: Q1 is the first row after the header. On import every reference is remapped to the new questions. For choice questions, write the option number or its text.

Export and re-import

Export current questions (JSON) produces a file in the same format that can be imported into another survey.
